For many generations the Mayans, the Egyptians and the Native Americans have benefitted from the medicinal properties of rose hips – the fruit of wild rose species native to Europe, northwest Africa and western AsiaRosa canina and Rosa gallica are the two types of rose bush most often cultivated for their hips; they are made into teas, syrups and jellies, and used to make oils for the complexion. Rose hips are rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, calcium and iron, and are a good source of bio flavonoids, pectin, vitamin E, selenium, manganese, and B complex vitamins. They also contain moderate amounts of magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur and silicon.
